Statistics

TERM 4 - STATISTICS

For the next 4 weeks we will focus on the strand - Statistics.  You will also have the opportunity to achieve NCEA Level 1 numeracy, a total of 3 credits in this assessment:

Standard 26626:  Interpret statistical information for a purpose

To achieve these credits, you will be involved in some physical practical activities to enable gathering of data to read, interpret and provide statistical information.  We will revise on areas within statistics prior to taking on each assessment. Below is a schedule for the next 5 weeks of the term

Weeks 1 & 2 - Numeracy Revision

Welcome back to a new term - numeracy for Term 4 will look like this:


  • Weeks 1 & 2 - revision for e-asTTle testing in week 3.  
  • Weeks 3 to 9 - Statistics with the opportunity of gaining credits as well as some financial literacy.


Weeks 1 & 2 - revision assessment


For the first 2 weeks, we will be revising for the end of year e-asTTle test in week 3.  This assessment is at Level 4 and will include the 5 maths strands:
  • Number
  • Measurement
  • Geometry
  • Algebra
  • Statistics


Things to remember:
  1. It is an open book assessment so you may use our Year 10 website, your notes from your maths book or any maths resources to help you.


  1. If you are unsure of any question focus headings, for example; you need to complete question 5 but don’t know the focus heading, click here for focus heading questions doc.


  1. You may complete the assessment using the hard copy or you may use a digital pdf copy but will need to write your answers in your maths book, click here for pdf assessment.

  1. When you have finished, please total your correct answers for each of the 5 strands and enter them into this google form - total marks are out of 161 - click here for answers.

Week 9 - Measurement (final week for revision)

This week is our final reflection week for Term 2.  Next week is our post-test for measurement.  This week we will revise on finding the area of squares, cuboids and circles.

1. (Measurement) Practice test B - this is an open book test, meaning you can refer to your book notes or website to try and complete the test as best you can. If you can’t answer a question - do use the notes and website to help you.

2. Once you have completed the test, mark it.   Click on this link for the answers

3. Circle or highlight (ask the teacher for one) the question number/s you get wrong.

4. Once you have done all you can in the practice test, you are to work on any of the online measurement quizzes or activity links on the website.

All focuses from 1 to 24 are now available on our Year 10 website, added by Mr Reid. They all have online learning materials and activities to help you complete your measurement focuses.

Remember to be consistent with your maths mahi in your workbook….here is a reminder of the process to complete your focuses….

  • converting units of area

Once you have completed these assigned tasks, then you are able to choose an activity of your choice.

Teacher focus group

Here we will re-visit focus headings from Number where you will have the opportunity work through problems or gaps based on your Post Test last term. This may include identifying what strategies and knowledge are required to further develop this area.

In week 5 we will change our teacher focus and work with Measurement gaps
